How To Obtain a
Florida Concealed Weapon/Firearm License
Five step
process.

1. Determine Your
Eligibility |

Eligibility Requirements |
-
You
must be 21 years of age or older
-
You
must be able to demonstrate competency with a
firearm.
-
Unless you are serving overseas in the United States
Armed Forces, you must currently reside in the
United States (U.S.) AND be a U.S. citizen or deemed
a lawful permanent resident alien by Department of
Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration
Service (USCIS). If you are serving overseas
in the U.S. Armed Forces, submit a copy of your
deployment documentation with your application.
Those who are 'Resident Aliens' must provide a valid
Permanent Resident Alien card. -
Review and familiarize yourself with the Florida
Chapter 790 as
you will be asked to swear and affirm
that you have been
furnished a copy and have read and are familiar with
the Florida Concealed Weapon/Firearm statutes.

Possible Reasons for Ineligibility |
-
The
physical inability to handle a firearm safely
-
A
felony conviction (unless civil and firearm rights
have been restored by the convicting authority).
-
Having adjudication withheld or sentence suspended
on a felony or misdemeanor crime of violence unless
three years have elapsed since probation or other
conditions set by the court have been fulfilled.

A
conviction for a misdemeanor crime of violence in
the last three years.
-
A
conviction for violation of controlled substance
laws or multiple arrests for such offenses.
-
A
record of drug or alcohol abuse.
-
Two
or more DUI convictions within the previous three
years.
-
Being
committed to a mental institution or adjudged
incompetent or mentally defective.
-
Failing to provide proof of proficiency with a
firearm.
-
Having been issued a domestic violence injunction or
an injunction against repeat violence that is
currently in force.
-
Renouncement of U.S. citizenship.
-
A
dishonorable discharge from the armed forces.
-
Being
a fugitive from justice.

2. Obtain Firearm
Training |
|
Proof of Competency |
-
Completion of any hunter education or hunter safety
course approved by the Florida Fish and Wildlife
Conservation Commission or a similar agency in
another state
-
Any
National Rifle Association firearms safety or
training course.
-
Any
firearm safety or training course or class available
to the general public offered by a law enforcement
agency, junior college, college or private or public
institution or organization of firearms training
school, utilizing instructors certified by the
National Rifle Association, the Criminal Justice
Standards and Training Commission, or the Department
of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Any
law enforcement firearms safety or training course
or class offered for security guards,
investigations, special deputies, or any division or
subdivision of law enforcement or security
enforcement.
-
Any
firearms training or safety course or class
conducted by a state-certified instructor or
by an
instructor certified by the National Rifle
Association.

3. Obtain Fingerprints1 |

Fingerprints must be completed by a law enforcement
agency, an agent from the Florida Dept. of
Agriculture or an authorized agent from a county tax
office.

Fingerprints must be completed on form FD-258
-
Ink
fingerprint services can be done at most any Florida
law enforcement office.

Electronic fingerprint devices are available in
almost every Florida county. Click

4. Obtain Photo

Passport type color photograph must be submitted,
either electronically or in print form when mailing
an application.
